Our Story
In 2012, we decided to embark on an adventure that would forever change our lives. We went to Thailand with 20 other South Africans to teach English. It turned out to be the biggest adventure of our lives as a married couple.
We completed an intensive short course on how to teach to students a foreign language. Teaching assignments were arranged for us in a city called Petchaburi, where we taught in rural schools. What an experience!!
Bangkok was next on our list. In 2013, at the age of 56 and 62 respectively, we enrolled in a four-year BA TESOL course, at a university outside of Bangkok. It was tough, because we worked and studied at the same time. During these four years, we gained valuable teaching experience, first at a vocational college and then at various primary and high schools.
In 2016/2017 we received our degrees and wondered what we should do next. One evening, I was doing research for a lesson and saw the name Paraguay scrolling up my computer screen and that was it, Paraguay next. We did some research, found that there were some opportunities for teaching English, packed up and left Thailand for Paraguay at the beginning of 2018.
In Paraguay we have had wonderful teaching assignments, working with equally wonderful students, both young ones and adults.
Now, 2023, due to the problem with students not being able to read and comprehend in South Africa, we thought it is about time for us to return to South Africa and use our relevant experience to help the children of South Africa.
Our career backgrounds, both working in the corporate world, and our 10-year teaching experience in the Second Language field, qualify us to teach reading/comprehension, as well as our other skills to assist in the growth of young adults who cannot find a job to become independent, self-confident entrepreneurs.
Our Mission
Relying on our teaching experience and qualifications gained in the English Second Language field since 2013, we decided to assemble a team of the best teachers we could find to create a unique institution to support:
1. students from grade 1 to 6, as well as adults who experience lack of the skills required to read with comprehension and to write meaningfully; and
2. parents who are doing homeschooling or those who need a facility to do the home-schooling on their behalf.
Although we will be assisting everyone who needs our services, we will, where possible, attempt to accommodate those individuals who do not have the means to join fee-based education. No-one will be turned away.
Our Philosophy
We maintain that:
1. Everyone is entitled to an excellent education;
2. Parents should be assured that their children, in collaboration with teachers, would have the best educational assistance experience we can offer;
3. Everyone should at least be able to read, comprehend and write; and
4. Because life skills and basic work skills are essential to uplift people and give them the opportunity to either find a job, or to become an entrepreneur, they should be exposed to these skills.
